As August comes to a close, I find myself sitting at the keyboard trying to form this post. You would think that for a month where I didn’t have a lot to say, it would be easy to compile a recap. That isn’t always the case. Today is one of those days.
August wasn’t a real bloggy month for me. My weekends were jam-packed and the weather was brutal. The last thing I wanted to do was turn on the oven and heat the house up even more. The one recipe for the project I did manage to make was a huge hit.
Baking

A different take on the classic Carrot Cake, the Hummingbird Cake is a tasty blend of bananas, pecans, and pineapple. Topped with a cream cheese-based frosting this cake will definitely make you feel like you’re in an endless summer. Sadly that isn’t the case.
While I didn’t write a blog about it at the time, I did bake something else this month. A couple weekends ago, I took a quick overnight trip to the Hamptons to visit my boyfriend’s family and see a show. It turns out that his parents were hosting a dinner party and I decided to make something sweet to cap off the meal. Seeking to break away from the Magnolia Bakery Cookbook, I eventually stumbled upon a recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
The Cookies and Cream Brownies were simple to make, but the end result is stunning! And the best part of it all? They were a mega hit! I highly recommend trying this recipe. You and your friends will not regret your decision. And don’t worry the only “special ingredient” you’ll need is Double Stuf Oreos.
I’m kicking myself because I’m just realizing that I never got a picture of a completed, sliced brownie. I just have some in-process photos. You can view them below. These are brownies begin with a layer of regular brownies baked with Oreos stuck in the top. Once cooled, you add a layer of cookies & buttercream frosting. Finally, you add a layer of quick chocolate ganache and let them harden.
Other Major Events
In the non-baking world, I did manage to tie off one crochet project. It was one I’d been working on for quite some time and it was a relief to finally get it done. I gave it to my brother and his girlfriend over the weekend. They were very grateful.

Rehearsals for the show I am working on are in full swing. It’s hard to believe that we enter tech week in just four weeks. Time really does fly!
Plans for the Future
As September rolls around, I do hope to spend some more time in the kitchen baking. Looking over the recipe list, I am finding that I am severely ignoring the Cupcake and Pie chapters of the cookbook. Since we are now officially in pumpkin spice season, I can make Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes, right? And maybe I’ll finally try the Chocolate Funny Cake Pie. Who wouldn’t want two desserts in one?!
Well, look at that! I had more to say than I thought I did! As always, thanks for reading!
